Whether you can get a car in Kyrgyzstan depends above all on the season – and on your exact travel dates. In summer, demand for 4×4 vehicles exceeds what all the car rental companies in Bishkek together can offer. In winter, on the other hand, you can usually get a car at short notice. Here is an overview of how far ahead you should book.
How far in advance should you book a rental car for Kyrgyzstan?

The simple rule always applies: the earlier, the better – especially if you want a particular model or a 4×4 with a rooftop tent.
High season: May to September
From May to September, Kyrgyzstan is in travel mode: the passes are open, the yurt camps at Son-Kul are full, and travellers from all over the world are on the roads. For these months, we recommend booking your rental car in Kyrgyzstan at least three to six months in advance – for July and August, rather six.
Can you simply rent a car in Bishkek after you arrive in high season? As a rule, no. The rental companies’ 4×4 fleets are small and booked up well in advance for the summer months. September is now almost as much in demand as high summer: it is still warm, and most destinations in the mountains can be reached. Shoulder season: March–April and October–November
There are still plenty of travellers in the country in the shoulder season, although some of the high passes are closed. For these months, booking the car a few weeks ahead is usually enough.
Low season: December to February
In winter, you can usually still get a car in Bishkek after you arrive – booking in advance isn’t necessary. The exception is the New Year holidays from 30 December to 15 January: demand rises, and you should book before you travel.
Why booking early pays off
- Free choice of model. If you book early, you choose from our whole fleet instead of taking what is left.
- Rooftop tent and equipment. The number of rooftop tents is limited – if you want one, it’s best to book it together with the car.
- Fair cancellation. Cancelling costs 5% of the booking amount; alternatively, you can move your booking to the next season free of charge.
- Secure reservation. A fully paid booking stays reserved for the whole rental period – the car waits for you even if your flight is delayed.
