Some of the best places you can reach with our 4×4 — Kel Suu Lake, Lenin Peak base camp, Inylchek Glacier, the abandoned Soviet town of Enilchek — lie inside official border zones.
To enter them you need a border zone permit (propusk) issued by the Kyrgyz State Border Service.
It is a separate document from your visa: even visa-free travellers need one, and without it you will be turned back at the military checkpoint.
